Business Challenge

Kids first Montessori is preschool with an outstanding reputation and excellent reviews from parents but struggled to attract inquiries and generate leads due to its poorly designed website. The outdated and cluttered design failed to reflect the school’s exceptional quality and welcoming environment, creating a misalignment between its digital presence and real-world offerings.

WireFraming

WireFraming

WireFraming

Focusing on the core features identified during the user research, I sketched the first wireframes using pen and paper.
I created the list of all the important things that needed to be added in the wireframes like nav bars, scheduling buttons, information about the school, user reviews etc. using these as base, I created four different versions of wireframes.

I designed a new homepage with a playful and engaging layout, focusing on:

  • A clear and welcoming message upfront, paired with the school's motto.

  • A prominent and bold call-to-action (CTA) button to encourage user engagement.

  • Informative sections highlighting core Montessori features, such as child-centered learning, mixed-age classrooms, independence, hands-on learning, and a prepared environment.

  • A striking hero image that captures and promotes a sense of togetherness among students.

About us Section

After a couple of rounds of iterations, I created a well-organized "About Us" section, providing a concise introduction to the school, it's facilities, and it's unique "Kids First" approach. Additionally, I included a brief paragraph about the teachers to foster trust and a sense of comfort for prospective parents.

Drawing from research and participant interviews, I created a dedicated section titled "Why Kids First Montessori." This section provides prospective parents with an insight into the Kids First curriculum, the extracurricular activities offered, and the awards and recognition the school has earned over the years.

The original site featured a nearly non-existent review section, despite boasting outstanding online reviews.

To address this, I created a dedicated review section that highlighted their exceptional online feedback. Additionally, I designed a more comprehensive "Contact Us" page, ensuring it included all the essential information needed for prospective clients or parents.

I designed a dedicated "Teachers" page to provide additional information about the staff, however, due to client concerns, such as the risk of poaching, it was not included. I also created a separate "Parents Info" page detailing the curriculum and extracurricular activities but later chose to incorporate this information into the "About Us" and "Why Choose Kids First Montessori "page.

I am using two types of typefaces:

Bitter for headlines and Helvatica for body copy.

Both are clear and sized appropriately to make them easy to read.

By focusing on these next steps, the Kids First website can evolve into a more comprehensive, user-friendly, and visually appealing platform that effectively serves both current and prospective parents.

Next Steps

After successfully designing the Kids First website within the provided platform and budgetary constraints, the focus now shifts to optimizing and refining the site in future iterations.

Due to budget limitations, certain design elements had to be omitted, and I had to work within the constraints of the existing platform. However, there are several steps that can be taken to improve the website in the next round of development.

Gather User Feedback

  • Collect feedback from parents, staff, and other stakeholders to identify usability issues and areas for improvement.

  • Utilize surveys and website analytics to understand user behavior and engagement.

Performance Optimization

  • Assess website speed and responsiveness to ensure smooth navigation.

  • Optimize images and other media to enhance loading times without compromising quality.

Content Refinement

  • Regularly update content to keep it relevant and engaging for prospective parents.

  • Ensure consistency in tone and branding across all pages.

Platform Migration Consideration

  • If budget allows in the future, evaluate the possibility of migrating to a more flexible platform that provides greater customization options and scalability.

  • Assess cost-benefit analysis to determine whether switching platforms aligns with the school's long-term goals.
